Wechsel:Wirkung - Science, Technology, Media

Weekly topic "Wechsel:Wirkung - Science, Technology, Media"
14 September – 18 September 2020, 4.15pm-7.30pm

Everything is connected to everything else—especially the past few months in the Corona pandemic have shown us just how strong our networks are. In the week themed "Wechsel:Wirkung" ("Change:Effect") we want to therefore focus on the manifold forms of networks, their dependencies, synergies, causal relationships, positive and negative feedback effects—in technology, science, society and the media. The topics we will discuss include urban development, the "Night Time Economy“ and diversity and sustainability in the media industry. We will ask ourselves what a „new normal“ cooperation looks like in networked, urban centres or social media. How do we make sure that no one is left behind? How do we prepare ourselves with effective techniques in changing times?

To kick off the theme week on September 14, we will be taking a look at future scenarios for changing times together with the Fraunhofer Institute for Industrial Engineering IAO: What will our city centers look like in the future? What solutions are available for the night time economy in the current crisis? And, what is the situation regarding automated driving and the future of vehicle interiors?

On 15 September, MEDIA CONVENTION Berlin invites you to "Impact Day", where the digital and media industry will discuss where it stands heading into the "new normal". What is the impact of the state rescue packages for cinemas, TV productions, self-employed and creative professionals? Who are the winners and losers of the crisis? We talk about media competence and local journalism, ask how digital technologies can pave the way out of the crisis and how the media industry deals with fake news, hate speech or the issues of sustainability and diversity. Speakers include: Christian Rickerts (State Secretary in the Berlin Senate Department for Economics, Energy and Companies), Patrick Weinhold (Head of the Social Media Team of the Tagesschau), Shakuntala Banerjee (Head of ZDF-Hauptstadtstudio) und Pia Frey (Co-Founder & CCO, Opinary).

On 16 September, TINCON will shed light on perspectives that have been neglected for too long in the media mainstream. Talks at the youth conference will focus on representation in journalism, empowerment through political education and the actualities of Gen Z. New digital formats and narratives will be examined alongside as well.

On 17 September, Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung will discuss the effect of the Corona pandemic on the quality of international reporting and digital change in the media. On that day the WDR, in turn, will address diversity in media companies. Together with Smart City | DB, we will discuss how urban centers change in corona times and what role train stations and coworking play in this process.

After one week of digital talks and discussions, we would like to invite you to an analogue workshop day on Friday, 18 September at #rpCampus in Berlin-Neukölln. Together with you we want to deepen some of our main topics in person. The makers of the Human Rights Film Festival will be presenting a workshop on "Climate Storytelling & Impact" as well as DB Smart City with a workshop on Rethink worskpace: Office, Home Office und In between. Producers Gordon Räck and Alexander Jochim will tell you how our interview project "HEIMSPIEL – Berlin’s Music Scene Live at Home" was created. In their workshop they will give you exciting insights into the development process of film productions.

Doors open at 3:30 pm, the workshops start at 4 pm. You can register for the Werkstatt day here.
